Hypermiling Scion autos or any auto for that matter, does better at 55 mpg on highway.  Toyota suggests that you slow the speed down considerably and not try to keep up with traffic, even if this means leaving home a little bit earlier to get to work. It has been scientifically proven that driving at slightly slower speeds does save a considerate amount of fuel and the results of a trip are only reduced by minutes. And it goes without saying that driving at a consistent speed also is beneficial.
