Critical Illness Insurance - A Basic Necessity.

May 5th, 2008 | by admin |

We may all live longer these days but that doesn't mean we shouldn't plan for unforeseen events; which makes preparing for this by arranging a critical illness insurance policy all the more important. Providing financial peace of mind for your family by taking out protection for a mere few dollars each week, does not seem as important to most of us as having that luxury cup of coffee every day during lunch.Research has shown that planning for critical illness is a wise move as statistically the chance of this happening is actually high, so much so that insurance providers now offer this type of policy quite routinely.     Studies have highlighted the problem with almost one man in five by the time they retire having a serious medical condition. This figure reduces, but only slightly, for women with around 15 percent having a severe health condition before retirement.According to the insurance companies, critical illness insurance is not very high on the general publics list of things to organize and this could be through ignorance or just that we do not believe the chances of it happening are that high. Those that take out critical illness cover normally do so to help pay their mortgage repayments if they are no longer able, but this type of plan can now be added directly to mortgage repayments.More and more people now use the Internet to source their insurance cover and there has been an increase in the number of people who are arranging their health policies online. There are still some teething problems with this type of facility with insurance companies realizing it may not be as easy as they thought. This is because many insurance providers who offer this type of coverage wish to have the applicant take a medical examination by an independent physician to ensure there is nothing untoward right from the start. Claimants also need to know that if they do make contact to their critical illness insurance provider that they will be listened to with a sympathetic ear.One group of high risk people are those that smoke, in fact they usually ask each applicant if they have smoked within the previous year and if the answer is 'yes', they will be rated higher. Whilst smoking is considered a serious risk to a person's health, there are other considerations that are taken into account; for instance the work or pastime may be dangerous, you may be in poor health generally or age may be against you.The cover that critical illness insurance provides is quite comprehensive, so you can expect it to pay out if you have a terminal illness, if you are laid off from work owing to the condition or if surgery is required. Family responsibilities are never easy but ensuring your family is looked after if you are diagnosed with a terminal condition does not have to cost the earth.  It might be a very saddening fact that if you are physically incapacitated and is no longer capable to do things on your own, that your family will need to take care of you do not have a single dime to spend even just to afford your  wheelchair tires  or even your wheelchair itself.
