HP began selling those laptops as part of a Thai government-led initiative to give the public access to affordable computers. The Thai government set the brand name, price and feature requirements of the laptops.

HP declined to say exactly how many of the computers it is producing, adding that it is still in talks with directors of the Thai government sponsored program.
HP said the laptops can also be bundled with an HP Deskjet 3325 printer valued at about 72 dollars.
