A dental assistant is basically an extra set of hands for the dentist or dental surgeon. Some of the dental assistant duties that a dental assistant will be required to perform are: preparing and maintaining dental instruments, equipment and supplies; collecting and recording  a patient’s health history; managing a patient during a dental procedure; swiftly transferring  required instruments from the tray to the dentist; preparing dental materials such as composites, amalgams and cements; knowing and using dental procedure isolation techniques; handling dental charts; preventing  and managing dental emergencies; managing and controling dental inventory.
