Making my apple tree apples taste better in apple pie? How to make a gooier filling?

I have an apple tree in my yard that doesn’t produce the best tasting apples, but I would still love to make a tasty apple pie with them. Is there any secret to make them taste better? (ex: soaking them in apple juice to get some flavoring?)

Also, I love canned apple filling. Therefore, I want my apple pie to be really gooey and not dried out. What are your best tips?

First time making an apple pie. Any suggestions to make it the best would be helpful. Thanks!

      Add sugar, cinnamon and some corn starch or tapioca for thickening. That should be all you need for an apple pie.

      just make sure that you don’t work the crust too much or it won’t be very good and here is a recipe

      5 large Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
      1/2 cup white sugar
      2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
      1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
      2 tablespoons lemon juice
      1/2 cup white sugar
      1/2 cup all-purpose flour
      1/2 cup butter
      1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch single crust pie

      ..DIRECTIONS
      1.Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
      2.Combine 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, and cinnamon. Pour over apples in crust. Sprinkle lemon juice on top.
      3.Cut 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup flour, and 1/2 cup butter or margarine together, and top pie with the mixture.
      4.Take two 15 inch pieces of parchment paper and enclose pie; fold edges up 3 times. Place on a baking sheet.
      5.Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour. Remove from oven, split parchment open and cool pie on wire rack. DO NOT open parchment covering while baking! Serve warm, or at room temperature.

      for the filling, use less flour becuase flour thickens it

      Hi, Here is the basic recipe one that I have made up before.

      6 cups thinly slices, peeled apples (2 pounds)
      1 cup sugar
      2 Tbls. all-purpose flour
      1/2 to 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
      Dash ground nutmeg
      Pastry for Double-Crust Pie
      1 Tbls. butter
      Oven set on 375*

      If apples lack tartness, sprinkle with 1 Tbls. lemon juice.
      Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. (For a very juicy pie, omit the flour.)
      Add sugar mixture to the sliced apples; toss to coat fruit. Fill a pastry-lined 9-inch pie plate with apple mixture; dot with butter. Adjust top crust. Seal and flute edge. Sprinkle some sugar atop, if desired.
      Cover edge of pie with foil. Bake in a 375 oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil; bake for 20 to 25 minutes more or till crust is golden. Cool.
      Serve with cheese, if desired.

      If your apples aren’t very good, your pie won’t be either. Try cooking your apples on top of the stove first and adding apple juice to them. About 1/2 cup. Add the sugar required by the recipe. Simmer them for about 20 minutes, add 2 Tlbsp. of cornstarch or flour to thicken. I would let this cool first before putting into the piecrust to keep the crust from getting soggy. Then bake as per the recipe.
