A Study On The Cure Of Ulcerative Colitis

March 21st, 2008 | by admin |

The Northwestern Memorial Hospital is doing clinical trial study for the evaluation of a cure ulcerative colitis. The cure includes a treatment with the help of an antibody product. This antibody product is known as visilizumab. The antibody targets the source of the severe ulcerative colitis.

The antibody is being produced in a laboratory. It binds to and attacks the problematic T cells selectively. This causes the prevention of the production of chemicals called cytokines that cause inflammation, thereby damaging the colon. The treatment is expected to replace surgery.
