speech at many frequencies

July 19th, 2008 | by admin |

The person loses all the information that is present in speech at many frequencies. Typically, it is the high-frequency (consonant) information that is lost. As a hearing aid user of some 35 years, and a cochlear implant user for 2 years, I can well understand the frustrations. As an ex-wife of an audiologist, I am well aware of the outrageous mark-ups on hearing aids. Europe is also doing neat things with implantable cochlear implants. As a result, hearing aids with feedback cancellation can provide about 10 decibels more amplification without whistling than can hearing aids without this feature. But I agree that the 10-15 % of people with haering loss need to be more vocal!
