Worm Farms

August 28th, 2008 | by admin |

There seems to be a lot of differing opinions on whether or not to use grass clippings in worm farms as bedding or even as an additive to food scraps. I am not an expert, but after looking into this, I have come to somewhat of a compromise for a solution.

In the beginning, I would not use any clippings until you get a feel for how long it takes your worms to go through their food. When you get a good handle on that and you feel you might want to give clippings a try, I think it might be ok then. I would suggest using a very small amount shredded into very small pieces. Remember farms are wet places and wet grass smells and attracts pests.

If you decide to use clippings, keep an eye on your farm to make sure it remains smell and pest free. If it does begin to smell, add some garden lime to help neutralize it.
